What is the Gospel?
Gospel – Good News according to Jesus
Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.” -Mark 1:14-15
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.
“Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming. -Malachi 4.6
Jesus comes as the culmination of Israel’s story and the fulfillment of a promise that the God of Israel made saying that He will come and rescue His people.
The gospel is saying “the kingdom of God is at hand”, which indicates that the kingdom (king’s domain, reign, and rule) of God has arrived in the person of Jesus. It is about what God is doing here. The good news is what God is doing through Jesus for our world.
Jesus talks a lot about the “kingdom of God” throughout the Bible, also referring to it as “the kingdom of heaven”. Therefore the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven is not somewhere you go when you die, it is something that arrived through Jesus.
